You’ll learn about the sort of work they do, be involved in one of their many projects, and gain valuable knowledge and exposure to your industry want to go into.
Week 1 – Bootcamp
For the first week you’ll be based at King’s College London on a training course that will provide you with the skills and advice needed to help you with the next couple of weeks of work experience. You will take part in soft skills sessions such as presentation skills, effective teamworking and commercial awareness as well as having the opportunity to hear from graduates from the participating firms.
Weeks 2 & 3 – Work Experience
For the second and third week, you’ll spend your time at the offices of your allocated firm and discover first-hand how a global player operates. You’ll work within a team and be responsible for daily tasks and objectives set by your line manager. These tasks and objectives will revolve around a key live project, which you’ll be actively involved with throughout your placement. By the end of this stage, you should have a realistic idea where a career in your chosen sector could take you and exposure to the industry you want to go into.
You may also participate in a one-to-one development coaching session aimed at helping you transition to university and the workplace. It offers you the chance to consider your future career direction and aspirations with Emily Chappell – www.emilychappellcoaching.com.
Week 3 – Final Day
For the last part of the work experience, all students will return to the King’s College London venue for a wrap-up session. This is the final day of the programme, where once again you’ll interact with both fellow students and sum up how your experience has gone. You’ll discuss everything you’ve learnt and, most importantly, how you plan to use your experience to secure your next full-time position or internship.
For Insight Day travel expenses please save all your travel receipts and take them in to any IntoUniversity centre after the event where you will be reimbursed in cash.
For the Interview Day please bring your receipts with you – we will have an expenses form for you to fill out for any expenses over £5.
Each student accepted on to the work experience programme will be paid £1,200 at the end of the three weeks. Please note you will need 2-3 documents ready for on boarding at the firms, i.e. passport, driving licence, bank statement, birth certificate etc.
If you are unable to attend the Insight Day please get in touch with your Into University contact about how to gain the information from the day and whether it will be possible to go forward for interview stage.
If you attend the Insight Day but cannot attend interviews in May 2017 please also let your Into University contact know so we can try to schedule this as a telephone interview on a different day.
Yes, we are only putting forward students that have been through the application process for the Insight Day forward for the next stage of applying to the programme. If you have passed this process and are then unable to make the Insight Day you can talk to your IntoUniversity contact about whether you would be eligible to apply to the programme.
A simple packed lunch will be provided at the Insight Day for you to collect and eat around the campus.
Accommodation in London will be provided for a limited amount of students living outside of London.
If I'm successful in the interview, but I'm not available for the period 10th July to 28th July, can I carry out the work experience at another time?
The work experience programme runs between 10th to 28th July 2017. There is a specific training programme and firm schedule, so unfortunately it will not be possible to arrange it at another time.
Please contact the founder of the programme firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and how to get involved.
